DIANNY RANTS: Onondaga County Rants to Sheriff 7

Dianthus breitbartThis is my report on the area Tea Party Group, CNY Patriots’ Q&A event with Onondaga County Sheriff Kevin Walsh (R). The two-hour event focused primarily on the new hastily passed, stupidly named NY SAFE Law (“Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement”).

The crowd of between 60 and 70 people were visibly angry and frustrated with the passage of this NY SAFE Law, a law even our Sheriff admits will be a virtually impossible to enforce.

Nothing like passing a law with the word “enforcement” in it that is unenforceable. But, that’s New York.

And that was primarily the theme of Sheriff Walsh’s remarks. When directly challenged by attendees to defy the newly passed, clearly unconstitutional monstrosity, Sheriff Walsh, while admitting that the law is “nebulous” and difficult to enforce, simply stated, “This is New York State.” And, unfortunately, we New Yorkers understand what he means.

We New York Conservatives are a teeny, tiny spec on an ocean of Liberalism. And though the Sheriff of Onondaga County was unambiguous about the inanity of this law, he serves in a county whose purse-strings are held by the Liberal Leviathan. Open defiance of this Liberal wet-dream legislation wouldn’t do much more than limit his already limited budget. It’s disgusting, but that’s New York.

The “feel good legislation” as Sheriff Walsh referred to this law on several occasions, clearly does not take into account the near bankrupt realities of the State of New York. In order to implement and follow through on this law, manpower will be necessary, and, counties like Onondaga do not have the money in their budgets to be saddled with even more bureaucratic nonsense that the NY SAFE Law will demand. Sheriff Walsh pointed out, for instance, that even now, before the Law’s implementation, the wait time to present your Pistol Permit Application in Onondaga County is over a year. He said if someone were to come to the Sheriff’s office today to start the procedure, the appointment to proceed would be set up for the first week in February 2014. The county is severely understaffed due to budget constraints. If that is how things are now, the County will be overloaded trying to keep up with permits if everyone has to renew every five years (as the new law dictates).

If I had to pick one word to sum up this evening, it would “futile.” And, that, my friends, is incredibly discouraging. The general feeling in the room was one of powerlessness. We the People, though guaranteed the right to keep and bear arms, have been rendered powerless by the Liberals in New York State. And for what? So Andrew Cuomo can build his Liberal Street Cred in the hopes of running for President in 2016? So the blow-hards in Albany can claim that they’re doing something about “gun violence?” When in fact, this law will do the sum total of NOTHING.

Case in point: A young mother spoke of her three year old daughter and cited the politicians’ claims that this law will make children safer. She point blank asked Sheriff Walsh, “Is my daughter safer today than she was a week ago?” His answer, “Absolutely not.” He went on to point out that the problem with “feel good legislation” is that it is passed hastily without any thought as to whether its passage will make any difference. And clearly, this was passed without any thought to how it will be enforced.

This is the Sheriff of my county stating clearly that this moronic, imbecilic, piece of crap legislation that a bunch of idiots in Albany voted on without so much as a how do you do is completely unenforceable and will do nothing to stop criminals from using guns to commit crime.

Citizens of New York you were smoked. You were used. You were hoodwinked. And if any of you were stupid enough to think otherwise, wake up!

The only way that we can stop this is to stand up to it. The only way we can turn the tide is become a tidal wave. I sat in this meeting tonight and listened to forceful, well-articulated men and women stand up for their liberties.

If you are conservative in New York, you are not alone. But it is time to stand up and be counted. We can’t leave it up to someone else. There aren’t enough Conservatives in this state to leave it up to someone else. It’s time to add your voice. To raise your voice. Use whatever means, whatever forum; stand up and be heard.

Toward the end of the meeting, a Special Forces veteran spoke about not permitting this country, his home to lose the freedoms that he and so many others have fought to defend. He did not go overseas to the places he had been, witnessed the death of his comrades to come back home and be deprived of his rights and his liberties.

This is the spirit we all should have. Now isn’t the time to wait for someone else to carry the torch of freedom. I have to. You have to. All of us do. It is our obligation to our Founders and to the generations who will come after us. Stand up, New York. For freedom.

    Well stated Dianne!

It may not be possible to save NY at this point. May I suggest that Texas has the welcome wagon out (click website link above). Perhaps the only thing NY’rs will understand is the continued exodus of jobs, businesses, and brain power from NY State.

    ADDENDUM:
Here is the list of items removed from the Democrat proposals for the New York SAFE Act. They wanted to keep the Democrat input hidden. Let’s pull back the veil, shall we?
    1. Confiscation of “assault weapons”
    2. Confiscation of ten round clips
    3. Statewide database for ALL Guns
    4. Continue to allow pistol permit holder’s information to be accessible to the public
    5. Label semiautomatic shotguns with more than 5 rounds or pistol grips as “assault weapons”
    6. Limit the number of rounds in a magazine to 5 and confiscation and forfeiture of banned magazines
    7. Limit possession to no more than two (2) magazines
    8. Limit purchase of guns to one gun per person per month
    9. Require re-licensing of all pistol permit owners
    10. Require renewal of all pistol permits every five years
    11. State issued pistol permits
    12. Micro-stamping of all guns in New York State
    13. Require licensing of all gun ammo dealers
    14. Mandatory locking of guns at home
    15. Fee for licensing, registering weapons

I am one of the rare, endangered specie, Conservatus Newyorkis. I also listened to the Assembly floor discussion of the bill. Representative after Representative stood up and voiced their adamant opposition to the bill for a long laundry list of infractions. The bill still got voted in.

During the discussion, at least one member referenced certain parts which were ultimately left out, the loony lib wish list Dianny was kind enough to post. Frankly its laughable. Confiscation? How do they plan on executing that one? Sheriff Walsh wasn’t the only Sheriff complaining about manpower constraints, so was the Sheriff of Oswego County. Do they plan on going door to door? Good luck with that.

Mandatory registration is part of the bill. Also, on the Assembly floor, a Representative correctly pointed out when Canada tried to enact similar registration, there was only a 35% success rate, meaning 65% of honest law abiding Canadians refused to register their weapons. How does the state plan on dealing with that? I can only imagine the solution involves hope, faith, and fairy dust.

There begs the question of the 7 round limit. Most semi-automatic handguns have a 10 round magazine. This law is unique to NY. The feds have set their limit to 10. How are New Yorkers going to purchase magazines after the law goes into effect? Most manufacturers will not be willing to redesign or retool to capitulate to one state, its not cost effective. Did NY just regulate away 90% of semi-automatic hanguns, the most popular type of handgun, due to banning an integral part of the gun’s operation? It sure looks that way to me.

NY Civil Law. The right of the people, to keep and bear arms, cannot be infringed. Infringed is a verb, its definition is: Act so as to limit or undermine (something); encroach on: “infringe on his privacy”.

A citizen is not obligated to follow an unlawful law. Actually a citizen has a duty to disobey a unlawful law. Everyone enjoys the universal right to self-defense. The law cannot strip us of that right any more than it can strip us of the right to free speech, or to practice a religion we deem fit.

Okay, I’m getting off my soap box now. I apologize for the length of the rant. I am ashamed at the actions of my State government. This law was ill-planned, ill-thought out, and is an abomination of our natural rights as a free people.

I figured I better report in. Yes Dianny I did show up to the CNY Patriots meeting. I live in a sea of liberals so friends weren’t to interested, but I did my part. When words fail actions must follow.
